Human Resources Management


The Human Resources Department at Pakistan Refinery Limited is dedicated towards devising HR strategies that provide its employees with a safe and congenial environment whereby they can perform to the best of their abilities. In addition; the department is involved in developing strategies that benefit the Company and its stakeholders.

The Human Resources Department comprises of the following functions:

  • Industrial Relations & Training
  • HR Operations & Services
  • Security & Administration
  • Medical

Industrial Relations & Training

Industrial Relations:

The Industrial Relations function is responsible for implementing and executing PRL’s labor / employee relations policy. This section maintains industrial peace by dealing with unionized employees and playing an important role in the collective bargaining agreements. Liaison with Labor Relation Authorities, counselling of employees to resolve their problems and managing labor related court cases also fall under the domain of Industrial Relations function.

Training & Development: PRL recognizes the importance of developing its employees for their present roles as well as providing them with the skills and abilities which the Company can leverage over time. It is the policy of the Company to provide the best training to the employees based on their performance needs and job requirements, so that there are well-trained resources available at all times.

The Training function uses the Company’s functional experts as well as external experts for the technical and HSEQ areas, whereas management skills are imparted by external experts only. All new entrants are given extensive on-the-job training, while seniors with potential are developed through lateral cross-functional transfers.

PRL steers its development and mission in proper direction by having employees who are exposed to constant training and evaluation in order to progress on a routine basis. Through local and overseas trainings, the employees are motivated which is important in attaining success in all the Company operations. By trainings, workshops and conferences both internal and external the employees get an opportunity to acquire new skills, improve existing ones, perform better, increase productivity and be better team leaders.

Training and development programs have a huge impact on PRL environment. Like other functions, training and development is focused on producing targeted and tangible results for the business.

HR Operations & Services

Under the umbrella of Human Resources, the HR Operations and Services section plays an instrumental role in departmental strategy formulation in the areas of Compensation & Benefits, Performance Management, Recruitment & Selection, HR Systems and Payroll Management. This section maintains all employee records through its SAP – HCM module and on behalf of the Company recognizes employee efforts to achieve organizational objectives / goals via the disbursement of various employee benefits such as SPARK, Long Service Award, Special Recognition Awards, Wedding Gifts, Educational Assistance and Hajj Scheme on the discretion and approval of the Management.

Security & Administration

Security:

This section is responsible for safe guarding all the physical and human assets of the Refinery at both Korangi and Kemari. Physical measures are made to safeguard employees; to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and documents; and to safeguard them against any security incident. Perimeter patrolling, static guards, mobile patrolling of pipelines, liaison with Law Enforcement Agencies, visits of foreigners and their security clearance all fall in the ambit of this section.

Administration:

This function deals with all the administrative tasks of the Company which include transportation, canteen, janitorial services, gardening, maintenance of office equipment & furniture, maintenance of Company maintained cars, upkeep of Housing Colony & Beach Huts, and other related activities.

Medical

PRL maintains a fully operational dispensary, operational 24 hours a day, manned by a team of qualified doctor and dispensers to deal with any emergency and routine fitness related issues.
